About Ryan Stoldt

74693249_3881260668559_4508282236939796480_nRyan Stoldt is an assistant professor at the Drake University School of Journalism and Mass Communication. He teaches courses in advertising, media and culture, and he researches the intersections between digital production cultures, big data and algorithms, and global media industries. His work has been published in Social Media + Society, the Journal of Media Ethics, and the International Journal of Communication. In 2020, his research group on algorithms and radicalization won a $1 million+ grant from the U.S. Dept. of Defense.

Before returning to academia, Ryan worked in digital marketing and won multiple awards for his campaigns with Visit Wichita and Wichita Restaurant Week.

Outside of work, Ryan plays guitar and sings in Twin Cities, an indie rock band known for their “unique vocal style, varying guitar tones, and… surprising amount of energy.
